Hash Comparison

Compare two hash values to verify if they match. Paste or type hashes below for an instant, case-insensitive comparison.

Character Differences

Mismatched characters are highlighted in red.

Details
Supported Formats
MD5 32 hex chars
SHA-1 40 hex chars
SHA-224 56 hex chars
SHA-256 64 hex chars
SHA-384 96 hex chars
SHA-512 128 hex chars
CRC32 8 hex chars
Tips
  • Comparison is case-insensitive
  • Leading/trailing whitespace is stripped
  • Hash type is auto-detected by length
  • Use this to verify file downloads

How It Works

This tool performs a direct comparison of two hash values. It normalizes both inputs by trimming whitespace and converting to lowercase, then checks character-by-character for an exact match.

What Are Hash Values?

A cryptographic hash is a fixed-length string of hexadecimal characters generated from input data using a one-way function. The same input always produces the same hash, but even a single-bit change in the input produces a completely different output. This makes hashes ideal for verifying data integrity.

Common Use Cases

  • File integrity verification: Compare the hash of a downloaded file against the hash published by the source to ensure the file was not corrupted or tampered with during transfer.
  • Checksum validation: Verify that a backup or copy of data matches the original by comparing their hash values.
  • Password hash comparison: Check if two password hashes are identical without revealing the underlying passwords.
  • Digital forensics: Confirm that evidence files have not been altered by comparing hash values taken at different points in time.

Hash Type Detection

The tool automatically identifies the likely hash algorithm based on the length of the input:

  • 8 characters: CRC32
  • 32 characters: MD5
  • 40 characters: SHA-1 or RIPEMD-160
  • 56 characters: SHA-224
  • 64 characters: SHA-256 or SHA3-256
  • 96 characters: SHA-384 or SHA3-384
  • 128 characters: SHA-512 or SHA3-512
